Can anti-aging creams remove wrinkles? Pure " pap" ,says Body Shop founder Anita Roddick. In an astonishing attack the beauty guru accused the billion-pound cosmetics industry of a " scandalous lie" . Nothing but moisturizer works to stop the aging process and women would be better off spending the tw enty-odd quid " on a good bottle of pinot noir" . " There is nothing on God's planet, not one thing, that will take away 30 years of arguing with your husband," Said Ms Roddick, 57, who has made a personal fortune of 150m out of Body Shop. " Anything which says it can magically take away your wrinkles is a scandalous lie." But the cosmetics industry hit back hard, saying women were " not complete idiots" . Revlon said consumers wanted a luxury product with sunscreen and vitamins, not just a moisturiser. " We do not make claims that you will look 10 years younger but there are differences in fine lines, age spots and increased radiance, which is what women want in anti-aging products," said Revlon's Lucy Baker. The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association, which represents manufacturers and suppliers, said false claims were illegal. " If it says it will help reduce fine lines it has to do it," a spokeswoman said. Ms Roddick said she was glad she had triggered a debate and insisted it was " not possible" for a product " to defy the natural aging process" . " Cosmetics cleanse, polish and protect the skin. End of story. One of the beauty business's greatest lies is that you can turn the clock back with a face cream. Parts of the beauty business take advantage of women's insecurities about their looks."
